Just a little tidbit that popped into my mind.

As a sysadmin, if you write a bash script on a *nix- cool! You can do anything with bash scripts, they keep servers running. But if you write a VB script on a windows server - Agh! What were you thinking?

VBS scripts are just as powerful and fulfill a very real need on windows systems as well.

More to the point - why are bash scripts acceptible and VB scripts are not? They are both horrendous languages with disasterous syntax and questionable portability.
